Greenhouse sizes are quoted in nominal imperial feet and actual metric dimensions vary between manufacturers. Planning permission is not normally required for a greenhouse within the curtilage of a house under permitted development, subject to the usual outbuilding limits on height, position and total ground cover. Glass greenhouses near play areas may warrant toughened glazing.
