Permitted development heights for fences, walls and gates apply to houses in England. The limit is 2 metres generally, and 1 metre where the boundary adjoins a highway used by vehicles or a footpath beside it. Rights are restricted on listed buildings and where an Article 4 direction applies. Boundary ownership and any covenant should be checked before work starts.
